Old style threaded bushing extractors were never up for the job. It is
next to impossible to hold them down into the grooves of the bushing and apply enough
force to turn while turning to remove the old, rusted tread bushing. in those old
Ford and GM Four-Wheel Drives.

First drop the spanner section down over the ball joint and turn until the spanner teeth
engage the bushing.

Next install the center section with the large nut on to the threads of
the ball joint. Click on the photo to zoom.
Using a 1 11/16 inch open end wrench turn the spanner section of the tool
to remove the old, rusted bushing from the spindle.
